The issue with North Korea, by the way, is that the West is weirdly racist about it and it's a painful dystopia. It's like Imperial Japan, the fact that they killed more people than the Nazis didn't justify the racism in American media during World War 2 nor does that racism diminish Imperial Japan's crimes.

• Satoru Anabuki (Japanese IJAAF Ace)
Lieutenant Colonel Satoru Anabuki 穴吹 智, Anabuki Satoru, was depending on the source, the second or third highest-scoring flying ace of the Imperial Japanese Army Air Force in World War II, with 39 victories (51 claimed).
Born into a farming family in the Kagawa Prefecture, he graduated high school to take the entrance examination for the Juvenile Flying Soldier School and entered the Tokyo Army Aviation School in April 1938, In Oct 1940, he was enrolled in Tachi'arai flight school in Fukuoka Prefecture graduating in March 1941 in the 6th Juvenile Soldier Course and receiving a promotion to corporal in October. He was assigned to the 3rd Company of the 50th Air Squadron, stationed on Formosa in 1941. With the outbreak of the Pacific War, he fought in the conquest of the Philippines, where he claimed his first victory, a Curtiss P-40, on December 22nd, 1941 flying a Ki-27 aircraft. On February 9th, 1942, he shot down two more.
He returned to Japan with his squadron in Apr 1942, where the squadron was re-equipped with Ki-43 Hayabusa aircraft; Anabuki named his new fighter "Fubuki", partially based on his own surname. In Jun 1942, his squadron was transferred to Burma, where he would see combat over Burma, India, and southwestern China. He was promoted to the rank of sergeant in Dec 1942. On December 20th, 1942, he shot down a Blenheim bomber over Magwe, Burma, the first of many bomber victories. On December 24th, he shot down three British Hurricane fighters in combat over Magwe, Burma. In May 1943, he received a new Ki-43 fighter; he named this new aircraft "Kimikaze" after his wife Kimiko. He was seriously wounded in combat while flying "Kimikaze" over Rangoon, Burma on October 8th, 1943; after initial recuperation, he was transferred to the Akeno Army Flying School in Ibaraki Prefecture, Japan in Feb 1944.
In late 1944, after being cleared to fly once again, he shot down four US F6F Hellcat fighters over Takao, Taiwan and the Philippine Islands while ferrying Ki-84 Hayate fighters from Japan southwards. In December 1944, he was promoted to the rank of sergeant major. In the final months of the war, he was an instructor at Akeno with frequent combat assignments; in this role, he scored his 39th and final confirmed victory (53rd claimed victory), a B-29 bomber, over Japan while flying a Ki-100 fighter. After the war, he joined the Police Reserve in 1950, eventually reaching the rank of captain. Later, he joined the Japan Ground Self-Defense Force, becoming a helicopter pilot stationed in northeastern Japan; he retired from his military career in 1971 at the rank of lieutenant colonel. He worked for Japan Airlines before retiring in 1984. Many of Anabuki's victory claims during the Burma Campaign have been contested by comparing them to Allied records of lost aircraft on particular occasions. In several cases, there were no records of Allied planes even operating in the area where the claims were made. Anabuki passed away on an unknown date in June of 2005 at the age of 83 years old.

Looks like it's going to be as epic as the live action Rurouni Kenshin.
youtube
In the early twentieth century, a Russo-Japanese War veteran Saichi Sugimoto (Kento Yamazaki) scratches out a meager existence during the postwar gold rush in the wilderness of Hokkaido. When he stumbles across a map to a fortune in hidden Ainu gold, he sets off on a treacherous quest to find it.
But Sugimoto is not the only one interested, and others who knows about the gold will kill to get it! Faced with the harsh conditions of the northern wilderness, ruthless criminals and rogue Imperial Japanese soldiers, Sugimoto will need all his skills and luck—and the help of an Ainu girl named Asirpa (Anna Yamada)—to survive.

"Only Westerners can be imperialists and slave-drivers!" the Far left says.
Counterpoint: The Ottoman, Japanese, Aztec and Ethiopian Empires. They don't exist anymore, but they were world empires.

When Sohn Kee-chung won his gold medal at the 1936 Olympics in Berlin, he had to compete under the Japanese name of Son Kitei. Why? Because Korea, at that time, was part of the Japanese Empire. Koreans were forced to take Japanese names and were ordered to speak Japanese.

This propaganda poster from WWII is a misquote. However, it's an interesting misquote.
Yamamoto never actually said, as he was depicted saying in a movie decades later, "I fear we have awakened a sleeping giant and filled him with a terrible resolve". He'd never say that because he knew damn well Pearl Harbor would be doing exactly that long before the decision to go to war was made. The poster's quote comes from something Yamamoto said, but badly distorted. The reality was:
Should hostilities once break out between Japan and the United States, it is not enough that we take Guam and the Philippines, nor even Hawaii and San Francisco. To make victory certain, we would have to march into Washington and dictate the terms of peace in the White House.
Much less cocky, of course, but outlining their goal at least, right? Well, the sentence right after is:
I wonder if our politicians, among whom armchair arguments about war are being glibly bandied about in the name of state politics, have confidence as to the final outcome and are prepared to make the necessary sacrifices.
That's hyper-polite Japanese speech mixing with hyper-polite please-don't-execute-me fascist military dictatorship speech for "what you're asking for is completely fucking impossible and you should be ashamed of your ignorance for even suggesting it". He might as well have added that the most realistic way of achieving that would be to go to occupied China and dig until they come out under Washington.

Petiton for psychotrenny to read up on Nippon Kaigi, its massive influence on Japanese politics, and its negationism and outright denialism of the atrocities Imperial Japan committed against China, Korea, and the Philippines during the 1930's and 40's.
I'm not entirely sure how US military bases in Japan with rapist American soldiers = the Japanese government admitting the the Nanking Massacre and Korean comfort women were not myths, but maybe I just need to drink more bleach.
In any case, in own experience, White people generally do not know much about Japanese racism and xenophobia. Since its primarily aimed at other Asians, they often don't care very much, either. And the right-wing chucklefucks who fetishize Japan as an ethnostate utopia like to claim it's 100% Yamato Japanese, even though it's not.

The Holocaust is often distinguished from other atrocities in terms of 1) its industrial character, and 2) the fact that it denied the humanity of people who were largely accepted as human by the “civilized” world.
That it was carried out through industrial means speaks primarily to the industrial means available to the Nazi war machine. The Nazis were certainly not historically unique in using the latest technology to kill innocents — early American settlers were pioneers in bioterrorism long before the Manhattan Project or drone warfare. Moreover, such creativity has never been restricted to “guns, germs, and steel.” Benjamin Franklin’s memoirs show how the project of American genocide came to understand the effectiveness of alcohol as a weapon:
"If it be the design of Providence to extirpate these savages in order to make room for cultivators of the earth, it seems not improbable that rum may be the appointed means. It has already annihilated all the tribes who formerly inhabited the sea-coast."
The second characteristic is more distinctively disturbing: the aggressive ambition and scope of fascist dehumanization. Nazi Germany declared Slavs and Jews subhumans in the face of, because of, their obviously rising fortunes, and Japan declared all other Asian ethnicities inferior in total disregard for their obvious historical greatness. These weren’t arbitrary hare-brained prejudices that could just as easily have been otherwise, if only there had been the right friendly intervention on the right set of people, or “more historical awareness,” as is sometimes claimed. Dehumanization was a necessary logical precondition to justify declaring the lands in Eastern Europe and around Japan terra nullius, to justify the imperialist expansive drive into a fully “discovered” and occupied world. In other words, fascist race science played, in the first half of the 20th century, exactly the same role that liberal race science played throughout the “Age of Discovery,” just directed against a different set of targets and with the entire world, now vocal and interconnected, bearing witness.
